On today’s Crash Proof Retirement Show, Phil Cannella and Joann Small celebrate six years of educating Philadelphia-area retirees!
November 23, 2008 was the Sunday before Thanksgiving, and at 1 p.m. that afternoon, Phil Cannella went on the air at Talk Radio 1210 WPHT for the first time to educate retirees. The first episode of The Crash Proof Retirement Show was co-hosted by Phil Cannella and Bob Bumbera, and featured a discussion of the financial crisis that was gripping our country at that moment.
Thankfully, the crisis has since ended. But what hasn’t ended—or slowed down in any way—is the commitment of Phil Cannella, Joann Small and the staff of Retirement Media, Inc. to bring truth to the American retiree each and every week on The Crash Proof Retirement Show.
On today’s episode, Phil, Joann and Bob looked back on the first days of the show—from its humble beginnings, with Bob and Phil discussing the issues of the day, to bringing on Joann Small as co-host in early 2009.
“I had no radio experience at the time,” Joann recalled. “But after listening to Phil for eight weeks, I knew I had to be a part of this mission.”
But the big break came in 2011, when then-SEC Inspector General H. David Kotz agreed to an on-camera interview with Phil Cannella and Retirement Media, Inc.
“We couldn’t believe no one was talking to the top regulators in this country about the financial crisis,” Phil recalled. “I still remember the day that he agreed to that interview.”
The ground-breaking interview that followed was the impetus for Phil Cannella to relinquish the CEO title of First Senior Financial Group to Joann Small, in order to broaden his reach through Retirement Media, Inc. He has since featured such prominent guests as
- Lou Harvey, founder and CEO of Dalbar, the financial community’s leading independent expert for evaluating business practices
- Harry Dent, famed economic forecaster known for correctly predicting several booms and busts in various world economies throughout his career
- Alicia Munnell, Director for the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, the nation’s leading academic research institution in the area of retirement.
All these interviews can be heard on today’s show.
Recently, The Crash Proof Retirement Show had the opportunity to expand its influence by adding political insider Dick Morris as a co-host. Dick’s expertise and experience in Washington, D.C. gives listeners another essential source of education in preparing for retirement.
Congratulations, Phil and Joann, on six years of shaping Philadelphia’s retirement community!
